‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring; not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care and I hoped that an Ally soon would be there;
My Queer self lay awake uncomfortable in bed, while visions of MAGA hats appeared in my head;
Christmas is for family, from far and near, even the ones that don’t hold me so dear;
When out in the driveway there arose such a clatter, I sprang from bed to see what was the matter;
Away to the window, I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash;
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the luster of mid-day to objects below;
When what to my wondering eyes did appear, but a Toyota Rav 4 and my uncle with his gear;
With his hands full of gifts and his dog Dynomite, I knew he was here to make things alright;
More welcome than Santa, his sight made me smile, and I heard him exclaim, Where’s my best nephew Myles;
I sprang down the stairs my heart beating quick and gave a big hug to my favorite Uncle Nic;
I knew he came early to be by my side to keep me safe and help me survive;
We woke the whole house but that didn’t matter as my parents and siblings began to gather;
More rapid than eagles my family they came, And he smiled, and chuckled and called them by name: Hi Sis! Hi Michael! Hi Mandy and Matt! Hi Mollie! Hi Morgan! Hi Marley and Max!
Tomorrow is Christmas and I’m here to spread cheer and squash the chatter that bring Myles fear;
I know we all love him and support that he’s gay but more is required on this special day;
My family they gathered to hear Uncle Nic and Dynomite lay by me his tail wagging quick;
Allyship is important every day of the year but Christmas is a time to make it more clear;
Be active and vigilant but gracious and kind, even when Aunt Janice seems out of her mind;
Allyship is about compassion, kindness, and love and standing up for Myles, going beyond and above;
After those words Uncle Nic stretched and yawned and said I’m tired, I’ll see you at dawn;
Then off to the guest room he and Dynomite went and I knew then and there my Ally had been sent;
And I heard him exclaim as he vanished out of sight Happy Christmas to all and to all, and to all a good night!
